About the UAE
The UAE is a federation seven emirates. Each emirate has its own ruler, and together they form a federal system with a central government based in Abu Dhabi.
Historically, the seven emirates were separate entities with their own unique histories, cultures, and political systems. They shared a common language (Arabic) and religion (Islam) and had close trade and diplomatic ties. The idea of a federation of the emirates was first proposed in the 1960s as a way to strengthen their collective political and economic power, and after intense planning and negotiations the UAE was officially established December 2, 1971.
The name "United Arab Emirates" is to describe this union of multiple Arab states, and emphasizes their shared cultural and linguistic heritage. The UAE is considered a regional and global power with an important influential position in the Middle East.
